Person-Centred Therapy
I am a qualified Person-Centred Practitioner and registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), of which I practice within the organisation‘s ethical framework for the Counselling Professions:
I offer a confidential, supportive and accepting space where you can feel free to share your experiences, feelings and be heard for who you are.
I have completed Continuing Professional Development Certificates in Online & Telephone Counselling, Designated Safeguarding Lead Level 3, Safeguarding Adults Training Level 3, Disclosure & Barring Service, Bereavement Awareness, Combined L2 & L4 Certified in Substance Misuse, Anger Releasing, Understanding Suicide and Suicide Prevention, Women Survivors of Domestic Abuse, Eating Disorders, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults (SOVA) Levels 1, 2 and 3 including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding Children & Young Adults (POCA) Levels 1, 2 and 3, Introduction to Gender and Sexual Diversity, How to prevent burn-out by enhancing individual identity, Introduction to Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), professional training in Consent, Mental capacity, Information governance, Duty of Candour, DSE Health and Safety and Equality & Diversity, Single Session Therapy, Remote Suicide Risk Assessment, Significant Events, Systems, Office safety for remote workers, Safeguarding Online, Remote Suicide Risk Assessment, Data Security and Affirmative practice with LGBTQI+.
I work as a full time Counsellor & Psychotherapist within an EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) service delivering brief Person-Centered and Solution-Focused therapy to a broad variety of clinical issues and settings.
I also run my own private practice offering clients both brief and open-ended therapy face to face, online and via telephone in Croydon and Clapham. In addition, I have also practiced as a voluntary therapist within a low-cost counselling service at The Awareness Centre working with long-term clients as well as within the NHS with clients on a short term basis at a Lambeth GP Surgery.
I am from a Caribbean background and believe in working with people from all walks of life.
I offer long term therapy for individuals on a weekly basis.
As a person-centured Counsellor I seek to engage my clients in a co-created and supportive therapeutic relationship where self exploration, increased self-awareness and deeper connection to one‘s resources and true self.
I understand entering a counselling relationship can bring up difficult and painful feelings I believe ‘the therapeutic relationship is the therapy’, this can be life changing and enhancing to one’s process.
My approach holds you, the client, at the centre of the work. I believe only you truly know what goes on for you and where you want to be. You hold the key and experiences to your personal growth.
I would work towards achieving this by providing a safe space to really listening to you through your frame of reference as well as extending acceptance, unconditional positive regard and honesty. All three conditions Carl Roger’s believed to be necessary conditions for growth.
My goal is to facilitate and provide a clinical relationship for your personal development.
Counselling is a talking therapy that involves a 121 relationship between a trained counsellor and client. This is central to the working alliance, the aim of my work is to facilitate your personal growth, self-understanding, self-empowerment, helping you with your journey.
Many individuals experience emotions associated with stressful and painful circumstances. Safespace121 offers a calm, comfortable and confidential space to help with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self- confidence, loneliness, bereavement, dissociation, suicidal thoughts, addiction, abuse, stress, work-related stress, anger management. These are just a few emotions we as humans can experience. I offer a space to help access your natural inner resources and facilitate you through your process.
I offer an initial 15 minute telephone conversation for you to share with me your presenting issues.
We would then meet for a face to face, online or phone consultation. This is a chance for you to experience how we would work together. We will discuss confidentiality, my ethical standpoint as I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice and any other questions you may have.
I offer a telephone assessment to all potential clients. Following this assessment, a therapy consultation will be booked to discuss what has been presented in more detail.
This session allows me to gain a greater understanding of your issue(s) and to discuss how we will work together.
